The Jumbos won the New England Div III Championship Saturday, earning them a trip to the NCAA national championship next week in Eau Claire, WI. Tufts put their five scoring runners in the top 20 to give them their second consecutive New England title with a score of 62. This Tufts team is the seventh squad in nine seasons to represent Tufts at nationals.

The top seven Saturday included Peter Bromka (Portland, OR), Brian McNamara (Saratoga Springs, NY), Nate Brigham (Penacook, NH), Matt Fortin (Raymond, ME), Matt Lacey (Amherst, MA), Josh Kennedy (Guilford, CT), and Christopher Kantos (Apple Valley, MN). Most of the team got out well with a tight pack of about 25 runners that held together through about two miles. At that point the pack split up with four runners taking off and Lacey and Kennedy leading the chase pack. The two would finish sixth and seventh, respectively. Brigham was Tufts next scorer, finishing 11th overall, followed by Fortin in 18th and McNamara in 20th. Interestingly, Tufts and Williams had identical scores of 24 when one scores only the first three runners. But thanks to Fortin and McNamara's placing, the final scores were not as close (Tufts 62, Williams 83). Kantos and Bromka finished in 38th and 55th.

The team now looks towards nationals hosted by the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire. The meet will be held November 20 at Whitetail Golf Course in Colfax, WI. Junior Rebecca Ades from the women's team will also be competing as an individual qualifier.

Also joining the competitors in Wisconsin will be roughly 30 teammates who plan to make the 20 hour drive to "The Eau C," as the destination is affectionately known on the team. This is the same group who cheered on the team at Regionals in 35 degree weather wearing little more than brown and blue body paint. The team wishes to thank alumnus Dan Barry ("Tex") for his contribution to the roadtrip.
