Pagel Improves on National Qualifier, Currently 6th in Nation
(4/18/2009) Full ResultsSenior Captain Skip Pagel posted a national qualifying mark of 6332 points at the Tufts Last Second Decathlon this past weekend. It was a season best for Pagel as he improved his current national ranking from 12th to 6th. Meanwhile, James Wheeler qualified for New Englands with his 5374 points.
Pagel's biggest point gains came from his 100m and 400m times of 11.47 and 51.29 respectively. It was an impressive decathlon for Pagel due to the simple fact that he only PRed in one event - the discus. In only his second decathlon since finishing as an All American in his sophomore year, Pagel appears to be regain much of his competitive edge that found him so much success in the past.
In Wheeler's decathlon, the bulk of his points came from his commanding 3242 points on the first day. With this being his first collegiate decathlon, Wheeler was limited somewhat by the technique dominant Day 2. As he continues to work on the full compliment of decathlon events, he should find some serious improvement and success in this event.
