PRs Across the Board at Conn College
(10/17/2012 1:09 PM) Full ResultsThis weekend marked the Jumbos' final meet before the championship season, and by all accounts it was one of the best of the year. The Connecticut College Invite has seen windy conditions in the last few years, but Saturday was a near-picture perfect fall day. Almost every runner recorded a PR, including all five freshmen that suited up.
Sophomore Joseph St. Pierre was the top finisher for the men, running 26:13 to place 28th. Even with the top 12 resting in preparation for NESCACs, Joe would have been in the top scoring five of all 22 teams competing, another demonstration of the impressive depth of the team this season. Sophomore Greg Hardy (with a wicked kick), freshman Mike Curley, and sophomore Colin McCrory soon followed in rapid succession, all finishing between 26:33 and 26:34. Those times put them between 18 and 35 seconds faster than their efforts last weekend at the NEICAAA championships, on a course of similar if not equal difficulty to Conn College.
Frosh James Traester and senior Luke Maher also put together significant improvements over their times last weekend, running 26:34 and 26:57, respectively. Sophomore Sam Garfield rounded out the top seven in 27:03. Fresh off a new 5K PR, sophomore Alex Sheltzer ran 27:12, senior Adam Brosh finished in 27:23, and junior Peter Lewis cracked the 28-minute barrier by running 27:56.
For the Jumbos finishing up their seasons, these were strong marks to wrap up a very solid season. For those continuing on to the post-season, the focus shifts to the NESCAC Championships at Bowdoin college October 27. We look forward to seeing you there
