Four All-ECAC Jumbos Lead Men to Historic Performance
(11/10/2013 9:39 AM) Full ResultsThe Jumbos competed at the ECAC championships at Colt State Park in Bristol, RI this weekend, where the majority of the best teams rest their top guys in preparation for the New England Regional championships next weekend.
The Jumbos' second group of seven runners put together a historically-strong performance in a number of ways. Marshall Pagano ’15, Greg Hardy ’15, Colin McCrory ’15, and Brian McLauglin ’14 placed 4th, 8th, 10th, and 12th respectively, earning four All-ECAC honors for the first time since 2003. Only once since 2000, when the conference began keeping online records, have the men earned more than two All-ECAC honors. The team’s 2nd place finish (behind NESCAC champion and nationally 5th-ranked Williams) matched the highest finish in Coach Barron’s nine-year tenure. The team also ran a faster average time at this course than they ever have before.
James Traester ’16 ran poised while dealing with sickness to place fifth for the team and secure a second-place overall finish. McLaughlin dropped a 45 second PR on the course, while Pagano, Hardy, and McCrory all ran lifetime personal bests. After battling injury throughout the year, Joe St. Pierre ’15 held a consistent pace to crack under the 28-minute barrier for the second time this season. Sam Garfield ’15 also competed, running 27:08 to finish within the top fifty runners.
Next up for the Jumbos is the DIII New England Regional Championship on November 16th. The meet will bring the men back to Southern Maine, where they competed in their first race of the season. Both the men and women hope to qualify for the NCAA championships in Hanover, IN – a top two finish guarantees them a spot, while teams placing third and lower would need to earn an at-large bid. The women race at 11:00 AM, with the men’s race starting at 12:30 PM.
