School Record 4x4 Caps Successful Open NE Meet for Jumbos
(3/5/2015 11:23 AM)This weekend, a handful of Jumbos competed in the All-New England Championship Meet held at Boston University. Although small in number, there were stellar performances all across the board.
On Friday, the team raced a solid distance medley relay. The relay comprised of freshman Sam Little on the 1200 leg, freshman Chris Gregory on the 400 leg, senior Sam Garfield on the 800 leg, and senior captain Marshall Pagano anchoring the 1600 leg. The team of Little, Gregory, Garfield and Pagano ran a season best time of 10:20.33 and placed 14th overall. In the 400m prelims, sophomore Nick Usoff broke the 50-second barrier for the first time, running 49.74 to place 15th. PD McCawley notched a top-ten school all time performance in the 500m as well, running 1:06.77.
On Saturday, the highlight of the day came from the record-setting 4x400 relay crew of freshman Andrew DiMaiti, and juniors Alex Kasemir, Mitchell Black, and Francis Goins. The team ran a school record of 3:15.34, breaking the previous record set last year by 0.01 seconds. held by the same squad minus DiMaiti and with the addition of now assistant coach Graham Beutler.
Another outstanding performance on Saturday came from junior James Traester in the 3000m. In the event, Traester ran a fantastic race, clocking in at 8:34.56, a 6 second PR! The 4x800m relay added another top ten all-time Jumbo mark, as the tandem of freshmen McCawley, Tom DePalma, and seniors Garfield and Evan Cover ran 7:46.69.
Next week, the Jumbos host their final indoor meet of the season before the NCAA championships. The Last Chance Invite will take place this Friday at the Gantcher Center. Look for some red hot performances as several Jumbos will try to qualify for nationals or finish the indoor portion of their track seasons with a season or lifetime best in their respective events.
