This weekend, the Jumbos traveled to Amherst College to compete in the Amherst Spring Fling. The squad faced some brutal conditions with gusting winds of up to 25 mph. Nevertheless, the Jumbos easily won the meet, beating runner-up Amherst by over 100 points.

The jumpers posted some solid performances despite the wind. Freshman Stefan Duviver won the high jump with his clearance of 6’2’’. Duviver also won the triple jump with his mark of 40' 4 ¼”. Duviver’s classmate Linus Gordon finished second in the triple jump with a distance of 40' 2 ¼” while sophomore stud Jarad Asselin placed second in the high jump with a clearance of 6' 0”. Additionally, Gordon and his fellow first-year Peter Clarke went 1-2 in the long jump with marks of 19' 3 ¼” and 19' 2 ¾’’ respectively.

The powerhouse thrower duo of senior co-captain Brian Williamson and junior Atticus Swett both secured wins for the Jumbos. Williamson won the shot put with a throw of 48' 9”, and Swett placed first in the discus with a heave of 121' 8”.

The sprinters were successful as well. Juniors Francis Goins and Alex Kasemir placed first and second overall in the 400m with times of 51.40 and 52.01. Senior mid-distance convert Alex Sheltzer also had a fantastic race, coming in third place in the event in 52.04. Freshman Andrew DiMaiti and sophomore Nick Usoff went 1-2 in the 400 hurdles as well with times of 55.64 and 55.94.

There were also some strong efforts on the distance side. Reigning indoor 800 national champ Mitchell Black made his outdoor track debut as he won the 1500m in a time of 4:02.21. Sophomore Luke O’Connor was not far behind as he placed fifth in the event in 4:05.75.

Next weekend, the Jumbos will travel south to Connecticut College to compete in the Silfen Invitational. The squad is hopeful that the weather will cooperate and that they will get some DIII qualifiers at that meet.
