Onslaught of PRs continues at Conn College
(10/19/2015 10:34 AM) Full ResultsOn Saturday, most of the squad competed in the Connecticut College Invitational held at Harkness State Park in Waterford, Conn. Although most of our NESCAC team did not race, the meet proved to be extremely exciting as many Jumbos had their best races of the season.
The first finisher for the team was sophomore Ty Enos in a time of 25:55, closing in a 5:04 last mile that demonstrates there’s more in the tank for our championship season. This was almost a 30 second PR for Ty and it marked the first time that he ever broke 26 minutes for the 8k. Fellow sophomore John Greenberg finished second for the Jumbos running 26:33 for another huge PR. In perhaps his smartest XC race yet as a Jumbo, John ran over a minute faster than last year to break 27 minutes in the 8k for the first time ever. Freshman Dylan Jones was third for the Jumbos after getting out aggressively in the first mile. Dylan’s time of 26:38 was a PR as well. Freshmen Colin Raposo, Tom Doyle, James Gregoire, and Hiroto Watanabe finished 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th for the squad, all running under 27:00. This stat is particularly impressive due to the fact that our fastest freshman the last two years has been at 27:05 (2014) and 27:03 (2013) at this meet. This brings the total number of freshmen on the season who have broken 27:00 to eight. Over the last three years COMBINED, only six first-years broke 27:00 in 2012, 2013, and 2014 put together.
Many other runners ran some personal best times, Seniors Alex Apostolides and Veer Bhalla, junior Chris Warren, sophomores Tom DePalma and Peter McCawley, and freshman Rory Buckman were among those who ran faster than their previous top marks.
It was truly a great day to be a Jumbo this past Saturday as over 80% of the racers posted a PR. Next weekend the squad has off as they prepare for the NESCAC Championships held at Wesleyan College on 10/31. As the postseason starts to get into full swing, the team is more excited than ever to compete with the best in New England and show what we are capable of achieving.
