(11/12/2005) See more Photos Full ResultsThe Jumbos toed the line on Saturday at the New England Regional Championships needing a top 3 finish to secure a spot at the national championships on November 19th. While confident that they could accomplish this, the main goal of the weekend was to win this meet for the third straight year, knowing they would get a challenge from a Williams squad that finished only 4 points behind the Jumbos at NESCACs. Tufts proved they truly are a dynasty in the making, winning the meet by 56 points over Wesleyan University. Keene St. snuck into the 3rd spot with 132 points.
In what was certainly the Jumbos best team performance of the season thus far, Tufts placed all 7 runners in the top 36 places of the meet and had a 1-7 delta of 1:07. The team was led by a 3rd place performance from junior Josh Kennedy who was followed by senior Matt Lacey in 8th. There was a short gap after Lacey, and then the Jumbos began to pour across the finish line. Junior Justin Chung finished 13th, sophomore Christopher Kantos finished 18th, and senior Matt Fortin rounded out the top 5 with a furious kick into 22nd place. Not far behind were seniors Neil Orfield and Kyle Doran who shut the door with 28th and 36th place finishes, far ahead of the 4th and 5th runners of every other team in the region.
After a day that the team can truly be proud of, all eyes are now looking forward to the national championships at Ohio Wesleyan, where the team hopes to net it's first ever top 4 finish. As usual, the jumbo harriers were supported by the original ?crazies?, who sprinted around the course covered in body paint adding excitement to every turn of the course.
