Sam Haney • 2013
Nickname: Slim Thug Essex, CT (Valley Regional High School)
Computer Science and Mathematics
Sam Haney embodies the developmental mindset of the Tufts running program. Sam exhibited a great deal of talent in high school with minimal exposure to asbestos. That potential quickly began to surface during his freshman campaign. After building a great base through XC, Sam continually dropped his knee-length stockings through the winter months. His indoor season peaked with his 2:32 in the 1000m that earned him All Region honors at his first New England Championships. During the outdoor campaign Sam set a PR in the 1500 of 4:05. Sam moved up to the mile in his sophomore season and finished 3rd at a competitive NE Championships. He narrowly missed qualifying for Nationals with his 4:14 at the Open New England Championships, but was able to hit the National mark as he anchored the DMR to a 9:58 this winter. This coming track season, Sam looks to take the base he built as a varsity cross runner and use it to evolve into a far more powerful breed of human.
