Seasons, Careers Come to a Close at ECACs
(5/14/2010) Full ResultsA handful of athletes ventured west to Springfield College to wrap up successful seasons for some and fantastic careers for others. Starting things off for the Jumbos was senior decathlete Bobby Bardin who posted three PRs in his first 5 events. Bardin finished day one with PRs in the 100m, LJ, and 400m. After a solid second day, Bardin brought home a 7th place overall finish for the Jumbos – a solid improvement after going in seeded 10th.
The pair of PVers Brad Nakanishi and Sam Read each put together some great jumps for the Jumbos as well. Read cleared his opening height of 4.40m and added three fantastic jumps at a PR height of 4.55m. At the same time, Nakanishi cleared 4.55m and narrowly missed clearing a national qualifying bar set at 4.70m (15-5).
On the second day of competition, senior Billy Hale wrapped up a storied Tufts career with his final 1500m in a Tufts uniform. Hale holds multiple school records for the Jumbos with his 2:28.70 in the 1000m and his 800m leg on the 9:56 DMR team. He has been a huge factor in New England middle distance running since his freshman year when he was an immediate impact freshman for the Tufts squad. His hard-nosed, tenacious racing will be sorely missed.
Best of luck to all the Jumbo seniors who have laced up the spikes for their final time was a current Jumbo. Next year you’ll be lacing them up for the Alumni Team at the TUXC Alumni 5k and the Tufts / Alumni dual meet in January. You better stay in shape. Good luck with that.
