With chilly temperatures in the low 40’s and a biting wind, a number of athletes were still able to take home great early season performances.
Senior Alex Gresham took home the top spot in the Hammer Throw with his ECAC Qualifying mark of 158-5 (48.30m). Junior Adam Aronson backed him up with a 6th place finish of his own qualifying for the NESCAC Championships with 138-7. Aronson would also finish 6th and qualify for NESCACs in the discus throw.
On the oval, freshman Graham Beutler ran a PR of 50.70 in the 400m, an impressive performance considering the blustery, frigid conditions. The conditions were evident in the 200m as Beutler battled through a 4.0 headwind for a 23.93. Fellow freshmen Trevor Rothaus (PV) and Kobe Boaten-Aduesi (LJ) each added their own NESCAC qualifiers in their first competition. Rothaus’ jump was also good enough to make it into the DIII New England Championships. It was easily the coldest meet of Rothaus’ career given that, up until this point, all of his vaults had either been indoors or in California. He overcame well and looks to be on target for a great outdoor season.
The full team opens up their season this coming weekend with the Tufts Snowflake Classic and the Sam Howell Invitational hosted by Princeton University. Everyone agrees that we hope that the Snowflake Classic does not live up to its namesake.
