Jason embodied the attitude of putting your head down and grinding away -- both in training and racing. After several semesters of dedicated work, the times finally started to come for Jason in his junior year. Hanrahan's tended to wear his grit on his sleeve, and his races look as painful as they doubtless felt. It was through this embrace of suffering that he was able to put up the third fastest indoor half-mile in school history at 1:54.50. Many times asked to carry the baton for the Jumbos, Jason joined classmate Billy Hale in pioneering a new school record 4x800m in 7:42.67, abominating the previous best of 7:48. His lead-off leg on that relay, one of many 1:55-point legs Jason ran that year, set the tone for Hale, Kirschner, and Marvel to inscribe their names in school history.
