Rookie Tobie Reeuwijk and senior Bobby Bardin kicked off the weekends competition for the Jumbos with Friday nights pentathlon. Both the mens and womens fields were very competitive as the evening played host to multiple national qualifiers. Saturdays competitions marked the first of two split squad meets for the Jumbos this winter. The Tufts track and field squad sent athletes to both the Bowdoin Invitational in Maine as well as the BU Terrier Invite across town. Across the board, the team posted a litany of New England Qualifiers and continued to gain strength toward the championship season.

Jumbos Start 2010 with Home Meet Win Results // Photos
The first of three home invites showcased the strengths of the Tufts track program: energy from start to finish, depth in every event group, leadership from the veterans and huge potential from our new faces. Amassing 239 points over second place UMASS Lowell, the Jumbos kicked off 2010 not only with a team victory but with eight event wins as well.

Three Qualify For New Englands In Pentathlon Results As classes around Tufts continue to finish up and call it a semester, the Jumbo Multis just started getting their season started. This weekends pentathlon at Bates College marked the start of the season for five Jumbos as they fought for PRs and points in the 5-event competition. In the end, Tufts came away from the meet with six overall qualifiers for the New England Championships.

PR’s, Top 10 performances, School Records, National Qualifiers…it was quite the season opener and Alumni Invitational this Saturday as the Jumbos kicked off the 2010 campaign. Many members of the class of 2013 got their first taste of collegiate track, and even with many athletes waiting until January to first put on the spikes, one thing was clear: this may be one of the deepest and most well rounded TUTF squads in recent memory.
