Led by senior tri-captain Christopher Kantos, the Jumbos took third place at the Keene State Invitational. Kantos took fourth overall with a time of 26:49 in his first race for Tufts Cross Country since November 2005. The senior spent all of last year studying abroad in London and raced for the first time this season after recovering from injury.

Freshmen helped the Jumbo second seven and Kantos to a third place finish. Chris Brunnquell took 26th in 28:35 with classmate Andrew Bellet taking 31st in 28:43. The two scored for the first time for Tufts with both turning in solid races.

Senior Matt Alander was not far behind Bellet, finishing 35th in 28:55. Senior tri-captain Alex Bloom finished two places later in 37th in 29:05.

Rounding out the top seven were sophomore Josh Gordon and freshman Michael Goetzman. Gordon finished 41st in 29:16 with Goetzman on his heels at 46th in 29:24.

Keene State easily took first, taking eight of the top ten places in the race for a team score of 23. UMass-Lowell placed second, tallying 53 points. The Jumbos followed in third with 96 points.

The New Hampshire course and cooler weather were a much-welcomed change for the Jumbos, who spent last week battling the heat and the hills at the Grafton Farm Course.

Coach Ethan Barron rested many of the team's top runners in preparation for the All-New England Championships, taking place next weekend at Franklin Park.
