DMR Coasts to 10:12 to Kick Off Terrier Classic
(1/23/2009)The distance medley relay consisting of Jeff Ragazzini (So), Ben Crastnopol (Fr), Billy Hale (Jr), and Jesse Faller (Jr) kicked off the competition at BU\'s Terrier Invitational this Friday. Duke led the race for all four legs finishing in 9:59. The Jumbos finished 2nd out-kicking Fordham, Quinnipiac and BC.
From the gun, it became obvious that few teams were interested in pushing the pace. Each Jumbo leg looked incredibly relaxed and strong in their final stretches. Ragazzini's 3:07 had the team in 5th place after the opening 1200m leg. He closed well off of a pedestrian 2:07 opening 800m. Crastnopol quickly moved the team up two spots with his 49.2 leg in the 400m.
After receiving the baton, Billy Hale held position well with an even-split 1:56.4 leg. From there, the pace slowed considerably. Faller eased into 2nd as it became evident that no miler felt like running anything faster than 2:14 for the opening 800m. Faller's closing leg of 4:19 (2:14, 2:05) was good enough to bring the team home for a 2nd place finish an 10:12.
The Terrier Invite continues tomorrow with open events. Competition begins with the PV, SP, and HH at 11:00AM.
