Jumbos Preview Regional Course at Plansky Invite
(10/18/2008) Full ResultsThis past weekend the Jumbos split their squad between the 5k and 8k races at the Plansky Invitational hosted by Williams College.
In the 8k, juniors Nick Welch and Jesse Faller led the Jumbos to a third place finish. Running the first half of the race conservatively, Welch and Faller steadily moved up to finish in 6th and 7th respectively, completing the hilly course in the same time of 26:50. The chase pack of sophomores Chris Brunnquell and Jerzy Eisenberg-Guyot and junior Ryan Lena finished shortly thereafter, with Brunnquell leading the charge in 27:18. Sophomore Jeff Ragazzini and freshman Erik Antokal rounded out the top 7.
In the 5k, a trio of freshman led the way. Together with 150 meters to go, Phillip Grannan unleashed a blistering kick to finish 4th overall in 17:12. Connor Rose finished only a second later in 17:13, with Henry Frey close behind at 17:16. Junior middle distance runners Jason Hanrahan and Alex Landy were the 4th and 5th Jumbos to cross the line, followed shortly junior Josh Gordon and sophomore Corey Melnick.
Williams will host the NCAA Division III New England Regional meet on this course in four weeks to determine which New England schools will earn a trip to the National Championships in Indiana. Up next for TUXC is the NESCAC Championship meet at Bates on November 1st, where the Jumbos will clash with the other 10 NESCAC schools for league supremacy.
